TEXT

“Hi Grandma! I hope you’re having a good day. My football team is selling discount cards to raise money for this season and your support would really mean a lot to me! The team is really important to me because I get to play the sport I love while also spending time with friends and staying in shape! Will you buy one? You can buy them by visiting (your team’s link here)”

PHONE

“Hi Uncle Jim! How is everything going?”

— Leave some room for a very brief personal conversation to happen before diving in. —

“I’m glad things are going well! Hey I don’t want to take much of your time, but there is a reason I’m calling. My football team is currently doing a fundraiser for this next season, may I share the details with you real quick?

— Asking for permission first helps the conversation feel more personal. —

“Awesome, thanks! We are selling discount cards that give discounts to local restaurants you can use all year as many times as you want. They only cost $20 and most people get their money back within 1-2 uses of the card. I really love being a part of the football team because I get to compete and I feel like I get to consistently improve. I really want to show my coaches that I’m dedicated by doing a good job with this. Will you buy one from me?

— Get straight to the point, and be bold and finish your thought by asking for the sale. —

If they say yes. —- “Thanks so much, Uncle Jim! This will be a huge help! You can buy the cards online, if you’re around your computer I’ll walk you through it real quick.”

— Always offer to walk them through purchasing the card online if you can, this way you guarantee they buy the card before you get off the phone. If they don’t want to, let them know you’ll text them the link to your team’s store right after you get off the phone. Don’t forget, if they tell you they’ll buy later, make sure to set a reminder to call them in a couple of days to make sure they didn’t forget! —

If they say no. — “No problem at all, Uncle Jim. Thanks for the time! Is it ok if I text the link to our team’s web page to you after we hang up just in case you change your mind?” — “Great, have a good day!”

— Sometimes people don’t want to spend $20 but they may be willing to donate a smaller amount. Always offer to text your team’s web page link after the call. They just might change their mind later! —

SOCIAL MEDIA

“My football team is raising money by selling discount cards. They’re only 20 bucks and you get great deals! Who doesn’t like free food? Click the link in my bio to buy!”

Some Tips for Social Media

Facebook and Twitter will auto populate with a picture of your card when you type the link of your team’s store first.

Consider uploading a video along with your post showing the card and talking about why your team is important to you.

Have fun with your posts and let your personality shine! How can you match the style of your post with the rest of the content you normally post on each platform? Also, don’t forget to always share your team’s link.

While you may get a sale or two just posting to your entire page, it’s always a better idea to DM specific people as well. Use the text script above as a guide when DM’ing.
